This week was Camp Robin Hood Olympic Archery week. During this week, we taught our campers to shoot classic targets, to see archery as a sport and become engaged with the activity and to practice for oncoming weeks. For Options, the campers had the chance to compete for the Archery Challenge Cup.
Camp Robin Hood is proud to be a SUN AWARE certified camp through the Melanoma Network of Canada. This means we practice safe sun behaviours at camp. All of our staff have taken an online sun awareness training module and sun safe practices are carried out around camp. Watch future newsletters for more information and check out screenme.ca for more info.

Who you gonna call? Germ Busters! “Germbusters” was in full force this week; in full “germ buster” apparel, we got our campers jamming to our theme music (which coincidentally sounds very similar to the Ghost Busters theme)! Hand washing was the focus of this theme. With the use of GlowGerm Potion and a blacklight, we showed our campers how to practice good hand washing. We also discussed when and why we should wash our hands as well as how germs are spread. Congratulations to our “Germbusters” grads!

Sports Academy had a really great week. We learned the four classic sports (basketball, baseball, soccer and tennis) as well as two other really fun sports (hockey and football). In soccer and basketball, we learned special techniques too! At soccer we learned positioning on the field and in basketball we learned B.E.E.F. (Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow through), which is an acronym for shooting the basketball. The highlight of our week was unveiling the Game Day Groove, which is always a lot of fun. For next week, please remember to wear sunscreen as we are out in the sun all day and it is very hot. Get ready for Dive Off next Friday!

We had an absolutely amazing week! Our trip to the Claremont Outdoor Centre, provided an experience where CIT’s (Counsellors In Training) and LIT’s (Leaders In Training) get to bond with one another and gain valuable leadership skills. And while we were working together we developed some great skills to prepare us for our placements around camp. We’re excited to finally put our new skills to use as we begin our first placement on Monday. The strong connections we made with one another are sure to make this a great summer!

This week was great! Our favourite activity was music; the girls sounded amazing on their recording. Teamwork was something we focused on this week too and our counsellors found as many opportunities as they could to challenge campers to work as a team. Next week, campers are going to be blown away by all of the cool things offered during “Turn-it-up-Thursday”, followed by an amazing Special Day on Friday!

We know that Senior Boys had lots of fun this week because we could see how excited they were to participate in some amazing activities. We’re lucky that our cabins are so close to Landsports because the Senior Boys took part in the action as often as they could – they loved playing “9 Square in the Air! The boys also had the chance to learn how to make kaleidoscopes at nature this week and were excited to share their creations. Our week was filled with fun and excitement including our end-of-day Talent Show and a mass game of huckle buckle that has made it into Camp Robin Hood history books. At Nature our campers were wowed by learning that they could tell the time using the sun and a few simple items! Next week our optional overnight gives campers a chance to spend even more time at camp. Who wouldn’t want to join the excitement?
